Simhastha 2028 Ujjain: A Sacred Gathering on a Historic Scale

Every twelve years, Ujjain becomes the meeting point of faith, tradition, and spirituality as Simhastha returns to the banks of the sacred Shipra River. In 2028, the city will once again welcome saints, sadhus, pilgrims, and visitors from across India and around the world for one of the most significant spiritual gatherings in the country.

Simhastha is not simply a religious festival. For Ujjain, it is a moment when centuries-old traditions come alive on an extraordinary scale. The holy ghats of the Shipra, processions of different Akharas, spiritual discourses, temple visits, and sacred bathing rituals together create an atmosphere that is unlike any other time of the year.

The 2028 Simhastha is expected to attract a much larger number of visitors than the previous edition in 2016. Estimates have varied as preparations have developed, with figures ranging from around 15 crore to as high as 40 crore visitors being discussed by authorities and reports. (ETHospitalityWorld.com) This enormous expected turnout is one of the reasons Ujjain is undergoing major improvements in roads, ghats, accommodation, transportation, sanitation, and crowd-management facilities.

For visitors, the experience will extend beyond the main bathing ceremonies. Many will come to seek blessings at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, visit Ujjain’s ancient temples and spiritual sites, take a holy dip in the Shipra, and experience the unique culture of a city that has been a centre of Indian spirituality for centuries.

With such a vast gathering expected, Simhastha 2028 is set to be both a deeply personal pilgrimage and a remarkable collective experience bringing millions of people together in Ujjain with a shared sense of faith and devotion.

In 2028, Ujjain won’t just host Simhastha. The entire city will become part of the pilgrimage.

♦ UJJAIN • 27 MARCH-27 MAY 2028

A journey that begins with

faith and lives on in memory.

Every twelve years, Ujjain transforms into a place where millions of hearts gather with a shared sense of devotion. In 2028, the sacred Shipra River will once again become the centre of Simhastha, one of India’s most significant spiritual gatherings.

From the first holy dip that opens the sacred celebrations to the powerful Shahi Snan (Amrit Snan) and the final Purna Ahuti, Simhastha unfolds through rituals that have been carried forward for generations.

But Simhastha is more than a series of ceremonies. It is the sight of sadhus walking in procession, the sound of ancient mantras, the glow of countless lamps, and the feeling of being part of something far greater than oneself.

Come to Ujjain. Walk where generations have walked. Experience Simhastha 2028.
